The general secretary of the General Workers’ Union, Tony Zarb, yesterday sued Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and top Nationalist Party officials for libel.

Mr Zarb said that a statement issued on the PN’s website, maltarightnow.com, was libellous and defamatory. He said the statement spoke about a “strong smell of corruption and of abuse”.

The libel suit was also filed against the PN general secretary Paul Borg Olivier, party president Marthese Portelli, and against the PN’s media organisation’s head of news, Nathaniel Attard.
