On September 17 last year, The Times had published a letter of mine highlighting the dirt and filth at the former Pietà car park.

The place had been turned into a rubbish dump. It was littered with used syringes, which drug addicts threw away after getting their fix. Furthermore, it was in total darkness, so much so that one was afraid to cross it at night and families who lived at the far end of this dump had to pass through all this filth and darkness to reach their homes.

Did anyone take any notice? Did anyone leave their air-conditioned offices to see for themselves the filthy state of this place? Did anyone even care? What must one do so that whoever is responsible will take action?

So I am again writing to The Times in the faint hope that whoever is responsible will perhaps take action this time round because since I wrote the situation has deteriorated and now there is a stench emanating from the dump, which means that someone has thrown dead animals or animal parts there.

I appeal to Malcolm Mifsud, the hard-working mayor of Pietà, who I know has the residents’ welfare at heart, to at least contact the relevant authorities and make them aware of the situation. Children have to cross the car park on their way to and from church and school.

Someone, somewhere, please do something.
