Following comments made by the Maltese Diabetes Association as regards one of the plotlines in the TV drama series Anġli, the production team would like to reassure viewers that a lot of research is put into every aspect of the series, including the part where a girl is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

The fact that ‘poetic licence’ is applied in certain cases to emphasise the storyline should not change the real intentions of the production team to bring up such an issue and raise more awareness among the people.

The association ought to consider the several other references made to this condition during the drama series and not simply focus on one line in the script that exposed as its background the fact that the mother of the child neglected her and the girl was diagnosed with the condition after suffering from high blood sugar level.

In the drama series, the production team showed the same girl checking her sugar levels alone, with a special kit, and wearing a special band to identify her condition.

All these positive aspects highlighting the symptoms of the condition have also led many parents to thank the production team for highlighting this condition in a popular television series such as Anġli.
