Four Chinese women have been arraigned in court and accused of running a brothel in Balzan.

Lin Han, 32, resident of Attard, pleaded not guilty to having shared with others the management of a brothel and having lived off the earnings of prostitution.

She also denied using the premises Honey Girl in Valley Road, Balzan, in breach of its licence conditions.

She was granted bail on condition that she does not go to the house where her parents and other witnesses live in Attard.

Ms Han told the court that she already signs a bail book every day (because of another court case on similar charges). She asked for the time limits to be moved because of her work. Her request was accepted by the Magistrate.

Bail was set against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €20,000.

The police informed the court that some €24,000 in cash had been seized from the residence of the accused and they suspected this came from earnings from prostitution.

In separate proceedings, Liu Renhua, 42, Yu Yali, 43 and Qin Weihong, 42, all of Attard were accused of involvement in the same brothel in Balzan.

They did not request bail and were remanded in custody.

Lawyers Andy Ellul and Vince Micallef were defence counsel.
