A 23-year-old Tunisian migrant who escaped from Hal Far detention centre early yesterday was re-arrested this morning in Marsa.

The migrant had evaded the police and members of the Detention Service who detected the break-out as it happened at 4 a.m. The guards promptly re-arrested two Somali men who had also escaped. They were taken to court and kept in remand.

The three made their escape by removing an iron bar on a window in one of the toilets.

The Tunisian migrant, who had been awaiting repatriation, was the mastermind behind the escape.

He was tracked down today and caught by Sergeant Major Charles Galea. When the Tunisian saw the detention officers, he again tried to escape but was cornered.
