Fred Bezzina (January 30) made two comments regarding my article “Guardianship is now law”, which deserve a clarification.

The law regarding guardianship is not applicable to minors. The reference to children that I made in my article was not referring to minor children as Mr Bezzina seems to have understood. Children who are of age will always remain children of their parents, albeit not minor ones.

My article did not refer to children as minor children. The Oxford Dictionary defines “child” as “a son or daughter of any age”. And in cases of interdiction and incapacitation, more often than not, it is the parents of children (not minor children) who have a condition, who are the applicants.

As regards his second comment about the guardian’s accountability to the board, he is correct. However I did not elaborate on that point, and on other points, due to word limit constraints.
