Red Electrick scooped the Best Song and Best Band awards at a scintillating Malta Music Awards ceremony held on Sunday at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, just one day after the two-day Malta Eurovision Song Festival was staged at the same venue.

One of the main attractions on the night was Australian singer Peter Andre, who took to the stage with three songs

Hosted by Keith Demicoli and Mandy Micallef Grimaud, the audience applauded artists for their work in the music industry. These included young Gaia Cauchi, who was a regular on RaiUno’s Ti Lascio Una Canzone and placed first in the youngest section at last year’s international final of Junior San Remo.

The annual event saw a total of 11 awards being handed out. Brooke was named Best Solo Artist, Tribali’s The Traveller was recognised as Best Album, while Ira Losco’s What I’d Give won the Best Video Award.

The Best International Artist award this year went to Belgian-Australian artiste Gotye, who was not present at the ceremony, for the international smash hit Somebody That I Used to Know.

One of the main attractions on the night was Australian singer Peter Andre, who took to the stage with three songs. The MMAs also featured all-girl London-based pop trio Monroe.

The performances included an appearance by Gianluca Bezzina, who will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden, with his composition Tomorrow.

The Malta Music Awards will be broadcast on Saturday at 8.40pm on TVM.
