The feast of St Blaise, patron saint of those who suffer from throat disease, will be celebrated with Mass at the church dedicated to the saint in the limits of Żebbuġ today at 10am, followed by the blessing of bread.

According to an old tradition, St Blaise church was first built in the 15th century. In the 17th century, the church was enlarged but it is believed that a further enlargement was made later on.

The Cathedral Chapter of Malta entrusted the church, through a donation for use, to the Social Action Movement some years ago. The movement restored the church and uses it and the grounds around it for social, cultural and socio-pastoral activities.

Lombard Bank contributed a substantial sum for the internal restoration of the church, while the Girolamo Cassar School carried out the external restoration works.
