Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi once again criticised the Labour Party for not publishing its electoral programme four weeks into the campaign.

“This sheds doubt on the party. We still don’t have this infamous electoral programme,” he said during an interview on Radio 101.

He said Labour candidates were unaware of what was in the electoral programme and “are going on television and radio programmes and getting mixed up”.

Dr Gonzi said while measures were implemented over the past five years to reduce taxes and boost the economy, the Labour Party was proposing “soap bubbles”.

“We are saying their energy proposals will cost €600 million for the power station, while they are saying it will cost €300 million.”

In the next legislature, a Nationalist government would also revise various pension rules to ensure people were not penalised unfairly. Widows will no longer lose their pensions if they started to work or remarried, while those who had contributory private pensions, such as the British Service Pension or the treasury pension, would be able to keep both.

Earlier in the day, Dr Gonzi visited the Qormi open-air market where he met shoppers and hawkers.

He said a Nationalist government would extend the micro-invest scheme to businesses with a maximum of 30 employees.

During the past five years, the scheme, available to businesses that employed up to 10 people, led to an investment worth millions of euros and created thousands of jobs.
