The Nationalist Party’s electoral programme, which would soon be delivered to every home, proved that the party believed in the country, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.

Speaking during a party activity in San Ġwann, he urged people to read the full programme and they would realise that voting PN would mean a secure future.

“We are being honest with the people. We gave you the programme,” he said, adding that his party also published the costings, showing that the programme was deliverable within five years.

“Since I’ve been in politics this is one of our best programmes. If you condense it, it boils down to a statement that we believe in this country,” he said.

PN deputy leader Simon Busuttil, who is contesting the elections on the ninth district, which includes San Ġwann, said that one of the biggest obstacles that the party faced was the idea that it had been in government for too long.

But people knew the Nationalist Government did a lot of good things, even though it made mistakes, which it tried to remedy.

“We need to convince people that we deserve their trust because we delivered results that we are proud of,” he said. However, the party was asking people to vote PN on March 9 not because of the secure past and present it delivered but because of the secure future that was mapped out in the electoral programme.

“Unfortunately, it cannot be compared to the Labour Party’s electoral programme because it does not yet exist,” he said, urging people to go through the PN programme.

“I have no doubt that when people compare this to the nothingness of Labour they will choose the best way forward.”
