The National Council for the Elderly wishes to refer to comments made by Minister Chris Said about Nationalist Party plans to keep the elderly active (January 30).

It was stated that “service pensions would be reformed so that beneficiaries would start receiving their whole dues without any deductions”.

Can the minister confirm or otherwise that this measure covers all types of ‘service pensions’?

Are we correct to understand that the proposed measure applies also to cases where a ‘service pension’ originates from local sources, such as those paid to public civil servants under the Pension Ordinance Act, better known as the Treasury pension?

This is a very important issue and, therefore, a clear reply will be very much appreciated.
