January was windier than the norm with an average of 11.3 knots being recorded against the January norm of 10.2 knots.

The Meteorological Office at Malta International Airport said this was the second highest mean wind speed since 1990.

The most frequent wind direction this month was from the west by north which was prevalent for 96 hours.

For 51 per cent of the time the wind speed was greater than 10 knots.
