Neptunes WPSC yesterday acquired the services of Exiles and Malta goalkeeper Alan Borg Cole.

He joined the Malta champions and cup holders on a six-year contract for an undisclosed fee, a deal which also included the transfer to Exiles of goalkeeper Ian Bugeja who had joined the Reds three years ago from Marsascala and helped his new team to two successive doubles.

Borg Cole, 22, started his career with Exiles at the age of 13 and formed part of the junior teams for a number of years. He broke into the first team when he was 16 after which he made his position in the senior side his own.

His agility and consistency in goal were rewarded in 2009 when he was chosen for the national team at the Len European Tournament held at Lugano, Switzerland. He has been called up as Malta’s goalkeeper ever since.

As soon as the signing was confirmed by the Neptunes president Matthew Bonello, the Balluta Bay club’s new custodian expressed his satisfaction.

“I am very proud and excited to have joined Neptunes which boasts a long and illustrious history,” he said.

“I consider this to be a very important event in my career.

“I hope to guard the posts as well as the many renowned goalkeepers who have played for this club before me.”
