Cash and items whose value does not exceed €3000 were stolen in a hold-up on a shop-keeper late yesterday in Birkirkara, the police said.

The shopkeeper was closing his establishment in Casolani Street at 8.30 p.m. when a hooded man armed with a knife ordered him to go in again and hand over the cash.

The shopkeeper was then bound before the thief escaped with the cash and some other items.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.
