A page in Malta's political history was turned yesterday when the last MP to have served in Eddie Fenech Adami's 1987 Cabinet - Ninu Zammit - called it a day and did not submit his nomination for re-election.

In contrast, three members of the 1981-87 Labour Cabinet will again have their name on the ballot papers..

The 1987 Cabinet was formed of Eddie Fenech Adami as prime minister. The ministers and parliamentary secretaries were Guido de Marco, Censu Tabone, Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, Louis Galea, George Bonello du Puis, Michael Falzon, Lawrence Gatt, Emmanuel Bonnici, Anton Tabone, George Hyzler, John Rizzo Naudi, Joe Cassar, Ninu Zammit, Pierre Muscat, John Dalli, Michael Refalo and Joe Fenech.

Ninu Zammit was parliamentary secretary for water and energy in 1987 and subsequently served as works minister and as agriculture minister. He was a back-bencher in the last legislature. Louis Galea, coincidentally from the same electoral district, is serving in the European Court of Auditors.

The members of the 1981-87 Labour government seeking re-election are Karmenu Vella, Joe Debono Grech and Leo Brincat.
