Labour believes in pluralism in private education

Private education institutions will be given the space to offer students specialised courses, including in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, Labour Leader Joseph Muscat said this afternoon.

During a visit to Computer Domain, which offers further and higher education courses, Dr Muscat said this could also help encourage more people to continue their studies, bringing down the “unacceptable number” of 16-year-olds who sought employment as soon as they finish their obligatory schooling.

He said the ICT sector was one where Labour saw potential growth and more must be done to persuade young people to take this career path.

Since he was visiting a family business, Dr Muscat spoke about Labour’s proposal for a Family Business Act which would facilitate the transfer of family businesses from one generation to another.
