Mario Dingli (January 16) has advised floating voters to “beware of gimmicks”. Indeed, he described the Labour Party’s plans on energy generation as a “gimmick”, having heard the same word used by both Lawrence Gonzi and his sidekick, Simon Busuttil.

So, Dingli believes that the PL’s experts have spent about four years studying and working to produce this highly detailed plan, which was then scrutinised and audited by BNV KEMA, an international company well known to the Nationalist government, since it has used its services until very recently on the BWSC problems, simply as a “gimmick”. He must also believe that all those business organisations, CEOs of very important companies, unions, etc. are so naive that they have been duped by a “gimmick”!

For gimmicks, Dingli is advised to go through the various statements made by Gonzi since 2008, starting with his promise of 7,000 jobs at SmartCity, the reduction of income tax from 35 to 25 per cent “in the first Budget”, to more recent hilarious gimmicks, such as the Brazilian company Oderbrecht, the 20,000 “new” jobs, the claim that “income tax will not be paid by minimum wage earners”, his claim that “the price of petrol today is $150 per barrel” and many more.

Gonzi may have succeeded to fool people such as Dingli and his ilk, but certainly, intelligent floating voters cannot be fooled so easily by Gonzi or Busuttil.
