Alternattiva Demokratika has expressed solidarity with David Caruana who is being accused of dealing cannabis for cultivating two plants.

In a statement this morning, spokesman Robert Callus said that the cultivation of two plants indicated solely personal use.

"The law is absurd because it puts people who are only users of the drug and never had any intention to sell at par with drug dealers. People who have harmed no one are being imprisoned sometimes for ridiculously long periods of time. Daniel Holmes is another case in point as are others with similar experiences."

AD chairman Michael Briguglio said that AD in Parliament will propose that the decriminalisation of drugs for personal use.

The victims of drug addiction and dependency should be considered people in need of help and not criminals.

At the same time, decriminalisation ensured that recreational drug users, including those who cultivated soft drugs for personal use, were not criminalised for their lifestyle.
