Valletta are poised to make another addition to their squad as they are in advanced talks to acquire Cameroonian striker Guy Madjo.

The champions have been arguably the busiest club in the January transfer window after completing the signings of Malta internationals Luke Dimech and Daniel Bogdanovic and Senegalese striker Demba Toure.

Belgian defender Jason Lee Vandelannoite also made his competitive debut for the Whites earlier this month after joining the club in November.

Sources have told The Times that Valletta are eager to increase their pool of strikers to further strengthen their chances of retaining the league title.

Madjo was expected to arrive yesterday evening after receiving the go-ahead from Valletta to travel to Malta in order to finalise his move to the club.

The 28-year-old Madjo, who represented Cameroon at U-17 and U-23 level, is a free agent after terminating his contract with English League Two club Aldershot Town.

Valletta stayed top of the Premier League last weekend after stretching their winning streak to four games with a 6-0 thrashing of Ħamrun Spartans.

The newcomers have made an instant impact while the return from injury of Malta captain Michael Mifsud has been another massive plus for Valletta. This was highlighted on Saturday when Mifsud and Toure both scored a brace while Vandelannoite and Dimech were also on target.

Meanwhile, Floriana, Valletta’s beleaguered rivals, have reportedly identified Iain Brunskill as the no.1 candidate for their vacant coaching post.

The Greens are looking for a new coach after parting ways with Stephen Azzopardi in the wake of their shock 1-0 cup defeat to Lija Athletic last week.

It is believed that Floriana’s top officials, led by president Steve Vaughan, are hopeful of persuading Brunskill to take up the job in the coming days.

Brunskill recently had a spell as first-team coach at Blackburn before losing his job last month when the Championship club sacked Henning Berg as manager.

Brunskill also had a coaching spell with the Liverpool Academy a few years back.

Floriana have signed two players from English side Macclesfield Town, Brazilian striker Rodrigo Branco and Harry Agombar, an English midfielder, until the end of the season.

It also emerged yesterday that Nigerian-born winger Udo Nwoko has agreed a move to Floriana following his departure from Hibs.

Wing-back Duncan Pisani has left Floriana to rejoin Qormi on loan until the end of the season. Midfielder Christian Cassar, the former Floriana midfielder who started this season with Ħamrun, has also signed for Qormi after obtaining his release from the Spartans.

Meanwhile, the Paolites are still hopeful of re-signing Brazilian striker Luis Edison ‘Tarabai’ before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Tarabai, who has undergone surgery to cure a long-standing knee injury, has reportedly flown back to Hungary to negotiate the terms of his release from Kecskemeti.

Hibs are also believed to be pondering a move for Mosta striker Obinna Obiefule if Tarabai fails to resolve his contractual situation with Kecskemeti this week.

Obiefule, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, has also been linked with a return to Sliema Wanderers.
