Intercultural dialogue between legal traditions

The Maltese Society for Comparative Law recently held its first public lecture entitled Children’s Rights: Past, Present and Future in collaboration with the Department of Civil Law and the University’s Human Rights Programme.

The lecture, which was held at the University’s Valletta Campus, was delivered by Prof. Michael Freeman, a Fellow of the British Academy and a global authority on the subject.

The society aims to promote intercultural dialogue between exponents of different legal traditions to stimulate increased scholarly study of Malta’s mixed jurisdiction and explore the contribution such scholarship could make to law in general.

It is planning to organise similar public lectures and seminars in the near future.

The executive council of the society, which was launched last May, is composed of Ugo Mifsud Bonnici as president, David Zammit as vice-president, and Alessandro Lia, Claude Micallef Grimaud, Jonathan Thompson and Stephanie Vassallo as members.
