A 24-year-old man has been charged with trying to kill his sister's husband when he allegedly fired a gun in his direction and assaulted him with a knife yesterday.

Christian Cardona, from Siggiewi, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of George Falzon, slightly injuring him, the illegal possession of weapons and relapsing.

His lawyer, Joseph Giglio, told the court how there were two versions of the events. His client denied ever firing a gun and said that the knife belonged to Mr Falzon.

In fact, the lawyer added, police had found no evidence of a gun being fired and Mr Falzon had only suffered a cut.

This was confirmed by Police Inspector Roderick Zammit who said that police were investigating Mr Falzon.

Mr Cardona was granted bail against a €1,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of €10,000. He can not speak to Mr Falzon or to his sister.
