What was the most popular topic of conversation in your social circle over the past two weeks?

Although my group of friends is not particularly into politics, over the past two weeks it has become quite a popular topic of discussion. Glenn Sciortino, 18, Mcast-Btec Higher National Diploma in Electronic Engineering.

My social circle is quite open and includes students studying law, engineering, and so on, so the topics we discuss vary; however, lately politics has been one of the most discussed, as it seems to be everywhere. Gilmore Sacco, 21, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics and Control Engineering.

Being an Erasmus student, the main topic of discussion within my social circle is mostly our experience in Malta and how it has affected us. I feel more open-minded than before, as I am aware of other interesting cultures. Patricia Quintas, 24, Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics (Erasmus).

Has politics grabbed centre stage for you?

Yes, it has. With all the hype and constant media bombardment, it is impossible for politics not to be the major topic. Personally, I don’t think there was need for such a long campaign. Glenn Sciortino

Definitely. The media is currently flooded with politics and you cannot escape it. Gilmore Sacco

Personally, the worldwide crisis is more of a concern. Patricia Quintas

If you were to be in power, how would you use it?

I would shorten the electoral campaign. An exaggeration in campaigning annoys people. Glenn Sciortino

I think education should be the no. 1 priority. I would like to see more courses to allow for a wider spread of education. I feel that in Malta there is not enough of an emphasis on theoretical physics or opportunities for students like me studying physics. Gilmore Sacco

If I were to be in power, I would never cut down on education funding, as they are doing in Spain. Patricia Quintas
