Floriana’s poor run in the BOV Premier League persisted today when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rabat Ajax at the National Stadium.
The Greens had looked for a boost after parting ways with coach Stephen Azzopardi and Gary Howard’s team made a bright start when Igor Coronado put them ahead after 19 minutes.
The Brazilian striker was put through on goal by Trevor Cilia and he cooly slotted the ball past Rabat goalkeeper Sean Mintoff.
However, on the restart things changed dramatically as on 46 minutes Jose Luis Armaro Negrin cut the ball into the path of substitute Malcolm Licari who saw his shot blocked by the arm of Kane Farrugia with the referee immediately pointing to the spot.
Kane Farrugia was dismissed and from the resultant penalty Armaro Negrin blasted the ball past Warner.
From then on Rabat dominated proceedings with Armaro Negrin missing a series of clear-cut chances and in the end the stalemate prevailed.
Floriana goalkeeper Tony Warner was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
