The Labour Party, like the PN, has promised to adjust student stipends pro-rata according to the cost of living index.

The proposal was announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in the morning and mirrored by Labour in the evening.

Speaking at Valletta Waterfront, Labour leader Joseph Muscat noted that Forum Żgħażagħ Laburisti last October had proposed such a measure and the party was taking this proposal on board.

He also said that a Labour government would lower the voting age for local elections to 16 from the current 18. The party also hoped to reach consensus for this to be applied nationally.

Dr Muscat noted that an hour after Labour yesterday morning announced that it would give a tablet to all Year IV pupils, the PN said it would give a tablet to all schoolchildren. However the PN had not presented any costings yet, Dr Muscat said.

He said the PL was not engaging in an auction of electoral proposals but was making sustainable proposals aimed at the development of society and the economy.
