The PN will in the coming days publish a report with detailed costings of its electoral pledges, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday. The study would show exactly how each initiative would be financed.

“This has never happened before in our electoral history.

“ With our electoral programme we will submit detailed calculations about how much each measure will cost,” he said, pointing out that this would show the seriousness of the party and the importance of sound finances.

Dr Gonzi also promised that the Government would finish Pjazza Gavino Gulia in Cospicua, part of the Dock One project.

“This is another gift for Bormliżi... this was like the Berlin Wall,” he said, referring to the wall around Dock One that has since been dropped, opening up views of the marina.

Speaking to supporters at the Labour stronghold yesterday, Dr Gonzi pointed out that the project was financed by the EU.

“Read my lips... these are EU funds,” he said, reminding supporters of the importance of EU membership.

Dr Gonzi pointed out that Cospicua was one of the many areas that had seen a “quality leap” under a Nationalist administration, even in terms of democracy.

“A while ago we couldn’t even hold meetings here,” he said after paying tribute to the Mifsud Bonnici family, which always served with loyalty.

Dr Gonzi also elaborated on some of the proposals mentioned earlier in the day that would feature in the PN’s electoral manifesto.

He said the PN would lease tablets from the private sector and give them to all schoolchildren and teachers while encouraging local publishers to develop electronic school material. The tablets would be continuously updated and replaced by new models.

“The key to our plans is the content,” he said, pointing out that this would free children from having to carry too many books.

Dr Gonzi also said the Government would introduce a night tariff thanks to the electricity interconnector with Sicily. This would reduce prices without the need to build a new power station, he said to enthusiastic applause.
