A man jailed over the importation of some 21,000 ecstasy pills and half a kilogramme of cocaine yesterday testified against the man in whose company he was allegedly caught.

Joseph Camilleri, 56, of Rabat said he and Matthew Bajada, 30, a mechanic from Santa Venera, had driven Mr Bajada’s Mercedes van to Rotterdam where they bought the drugs.

They paid €33,000 in cash for 21,375 ecstasy pills and half a kilogramme of cocaine. They made the purchase from from a man called Padron, he said.

Mr Camilleri admitted his involvement last year and was jailed for 12 years and fined €20,000.

Mr Bajada stands charged with conspiracy to import the drugs and importation.
