Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi this evening visited Gozo for the third time since the beginning of the election campaign where he promised more jobs and better education for Gozitans.

"We came to Gozo with concrete projects to generate more jobs in Gozo. The others started with a mass meeting but I still haven't heard one single proposal from them," said Dr Gonzi, pointing out that Labour leader Joseph Muscat came to Gozo twice empty-handed.

The 13th district, which includes Gozo, has become a key electoral battleground to the point that Dr Gonzi also pointed out he was personally making home visits on the island.

Speaking to supporters in Zebbug, Dr Gonzi reiterated the PN's proposals to give financial incentives for the upgrading of hotels and the setting up of new businesses. He said there were also a number of proposals in the Budget which encouraged the property sector, which was important for Gozo. However, the Budget was defeated because the Labour Party voted against it, he said.

The PN was also committed to keeping the island beautiful so it could be enjoyed by Gozitans, Maltese and tourists. Dr Gonzi also mentioned the upgrading of the roads and the bastions around the Citadella.

"I must say, Gozo has become really beautiful since we finished the roads," he said, stressing that some things should not be taken for granted.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of education and said the the government was looking for ways to make life easier for Gozitan students. It recently managed to bring University courses to Gozo and was now aiming to find a way to let Gozitans students sit for exams in Gozo.

Ideally, Gozitans should be able to work in Gozo, he said, but education was a key that opened up all forms of opportunities.

Dr Gonzi also committed to continue investing a large amount of EU funds into Gozo. He added that if a tunnel was viable, it could be a solution for the island's double insularity to also ensure that young people are not forced to desert the island.
