The parents of a boy charged with injuring another child at school in a bullying incident yesterday demanded that the victim’s parents withdraw the criminal complaint because the evidence exonerated him.

In a judicial letter, the boy’s parents, who are not being named because their son is a minor and undergoing criminal proceedings, said that the victim’s parents were capriciously and vindictively pursuing the case.

The incident happened at Stella Maris College around 18 months ago when a boy was tied to a goal post with his scarf and slightly injured.

Following the incident the police took action against four boys, three of who admitted to the charges while the fourth contested the case, the boy’s lawyer Roberto Montalto said.

They were all conditionally discharged.

The boys admitted to illegal arrest, causing slight injury, defamation and threatening the victim.

Following their admission in court, the victim’s parents were asked to reconsider their position because from the preliminary investigations, it resulted that his client had nothing to do with the case, Dr Montalto said.

Even during the case, consistent proof was presented that exonerated the boy, the lawyer added.

He said that despite his client not being involved, the victim’s parents were still pushing for the criminal case to proceed, which was “abusive and illegal”.

Dr Montalto demanded that the parents withdraw the complaint and held them responsible for any damages.
