The Electoral Commission should not legally require voter data to be submitted any earlier than the Monday before polling day, according to the Data Protection Commissioner.

The statement was issued after Alternattiva Demokratika wrote to the commissioner asking to cut back the amount of sensitive data on vulnerable voters in hospitals and retirement homes being handed out.

The General Elections Act allows the Electoral Commission to supply lists of residents in retirement homes and patients in hospitals to the parties until election day.
