The introduction of local councils by a Nationalist Government in 1993 was a significant step forward to provide citizens with a voice and a tool to make their locality one to be proud of.

Raised to the status of a city 125 years ago, Gozo’s main town, Victoria, had its first local council elections in 1994 to elect seven councillors.

On March 9, almost 6,000 citizens will be entitled to vote for a new local council for Victoria. This democratic act was made possible thanks to the people’s party, the Nationalist Party.

The local council has brought about significant changes in these 20 years.

It has upgraded street infrastructure, provided schemes to all organisations in Victoria, carried out rehabilitation projects in various areas and organised cultural activities that give life to the city, all of which cost hundreds of thousands of euros. All this was carried out by the council, which has always had a Nationalist majority. This party’s aim is to sustain local councils and not demote them.

In the last two years, the council has provided an efficient one-stop shop service for all those who need to make payments to government departments or require any services from them.

This proves that the PN has the citizens at heart.

With a number of useful projects planned for the coming local council term, we feel that the citizens of Victoria will do their duty while making the right choice.
