Motorist vents his frustration over potholes
An exasperated mystery motorist has taken to painted the words ‘fix me’ next to potholes in Swanage, Dorset, the Daily Mail has reported.
Dorset County Council said it is tackling the potholes and warned that it is illegal for anyone to spray-paint the road. It also said the state of the roads is no different from the rest of the country after bad weather.

Thankfully Reggie Miller Street in Gzira was patched up a couple of days ago, How long this patchwork is going to last is anybody's guess. A water pipe supplying thousand of gallons of water to a block of flats, was in grave danger of bursting as it became exposed in a hole 3 inches deep. Hundreds of cars and trucks where thumping on it as if there was no tomorrow.

"To the Government of the day (caretaker or not - blue or red):
.....We have said our piece ..... now ignore us, as you usually do!
Of, I forgot, you have better things to do ... under your tents on Sunday mornings, whitewashing your hypnothised followers."

Pot holes what are those?? in tal Grazija area in Zebbug Malta we proudly can boast of craters the size found normally on the moon No thanks to our local or should i say unlocal council!!! it is noted that residents in that area have called and reported these craters numerous of times. thanks to a Labour run council all we need now is their masters in government!!!!!

Never mind the paint, Malta will do better to change the makers of glue they use to fill in the holes, the sooner it rains hard the gravel is uprooted once more, worst place i reckon is in Gozo from Qala to the ferry and the continuation Qala to Victoria, its bloody murder, we imported our family car in good nick, paid an arm and a leg to your TM vat reg.had the audacity to charge me road tax & al

Sir one consolation, from Qala to Victoria if you happen to work in that vicinity driving through pot holes tend to keep one awake early morning & alerted, unlike the UK driving for miles none stop, enough to doze off at the wheel or in a traffic jam that goes on for miles, think yourself lucky we are only a small island and everything is at hand & close, as for repairs charge it to the council

What potholes? In Zabbar we have workmen patching last years patches. You cannot count or see the potholes for the road. In Birgu the street in front of the police station is a hopeless case and to add insult to injury it even has sleeping policemen. Things can only get better.

Anyone thinking of doing the same in Malta had better think twice. Will all the paint stocked in Malta suffice?

You manage to remember the old pot holes but you have to get used to the new ones. It is not the first time that you see a car swerving in your direction to avoid a pot hole, what joy.

On this subject of potholes.... not only that, but badly maintained or laid roadworks.
Arriva's fleet of new (yes, yes, I know, the Mercedes Bendys are not new!) have been wrecked by the very poor state of our roads. These new buses make as much clang as did the former fleet.

This guy and probably another 100 like him could have a full time job for the next 5 years if they decide to come over to Malta. The Dorset County Council should take note that if it is illegal to spray-paint the road, it is even worse not to fill up these pot-holes. The same applies to GonziPN and the local councils.

Wow, name, address and contact of this guy please. He'd need to go through bucket loads of paint by the time he gets any close to doing the same paint job for the pot holes in Malta

Why is it we always have the time and money to do things time after time again and again-like poorly constructed roads and their repair (using inferior techniques and materials mostly) but never have the time and money to do them right and proper in the first place ?I think this is what is called false economy(amongst other justifiable accusations)

Think if he would come to Hal- Dwin and Partri Pelagju Streets in Zebbug he would have a heart attack. All pleas to Zebbug local council fall on deaf ears. What's important is that prior to council elections they came with plans for playing field upgrading.
Keep waiting residents!!!!!!

In all fairness, a lot of work has been done over the past several years on improving road surfaces in Malta: a lot more work still needs to be done, so I definately agree that we should maintain public pressure on the powers that be until each and every public road in Malta is done up to the required standard.

We have done some streets and roads but the others have been abandoned. We need ALL our roads and streets to be safe. I am not asking that these should be up to EU standards, which they should be now, but at least fill those blessed holes immediately,
Weather is no excuse. Abroad they build autobahns in the snow and in record time.

I beg to differ, its not using spray-paint on public roads, what i think it is DANGEROUS & ILLEGAL are the numerous pot holes are supposedly to be repaired with the money we pay the government from our road tax & council taxes, as a resident in Gozo this should apply to these islands as well, how many times do we read the driver lost control hence an accident, most are caused by bad surfaces.

Hear Hear, we got it pretty bad in some parts in the UK, then again our hefty council tax is more then enough to repair our roads, Unfortunitly Malta takes the cherry on the cake for a small country, according to your government everything is brilliant and plenty of money in the pot, i don't see it from where i am sitting, many times i had to go to a garage and have my UK car checked & repaired.

Was agreeing with you until-like the song says ..-. you went and spolied it all by saying something stupid.Do you really think that "most road accidents" are purely caused by "bad surfaces?".As I concur they are undoubtedly a contributing factor but hardly a primary or principal cause of road traffic incidents caused by drtiver losing control of vehicle ,I would argue.

Now do not be a silly Billy Mr.Murray, you know exactly what my friend Paul means, but then again accidents in Malta and Gozo are not only caused by pot holes, i would say that 75% are cause by their sheer ignorance or inexperienced drivers that seem to be always in a hurry as if the driver suffers from diarrea or a call of nature -same thing <and needs to get to a public convenience in a jiffy.

Not enough white paint in the world to identfy our pot-holes and never mind painting on the road - aren't pot-holes illegal or rather poorly maintained roads?Still, like the holes in the cheese ,these holes were once road!

To all below....In Malta it would be cheaper to spray where there are NO pot-holes. Like that you would not need a container of paint.

In Prague people are very outspoken and direct. They have/had taken to spraying yellow spray around the obvious pot holes, this helped them to be noticed by other drivers and also accentuated the location of the pot holes for any of the local council members to get about and fix them. NOT A BAD IDEA AT ALL , WOULD DEFINATELY HELP WITH OUR POT HOLES IN MALTA TO BE NOTICED FOR COUNCIL REPAIRS....

you might be a little bit surprised were you to see the number of potholes in most european countries after a cold winter. even after a week of below Zero temperatures. My Street at present is worse than any I have seen in Malta for a long time.. (Germany.. a country which boasts amongst the best roadnetworks - worldwide).
Adrian Zahra
Jan 22nd, 12:39
The only difference, Mr. Pullicino, is that these things are swiftly addressed, not left to fester and become worse. Some time ago, I had read that in the highest Swiss mountain passes, the authorities dismantle road-bridges that are at rsk from avalanches at the beginning of winter and re-assemble them when the danger has passed at the beginning of spring. is this impossible in Malta?

@Thomas Pullicino,
Funnily enough I was in Germany a few months ago (southern part of Germany...close to Austria) and during my 6 week stay, moderate rain fell continuously for about 5 days....and I did not see a single pothole nor any water 'lakes' on the roads.
Mr Tony Gatt

But at least they will be fixed when the weather inproves.

Jan 24th, 09:53
Mr. Pullicino what you refer to is the result of expansion and contraction of the water which settles in minor cracks. When it freezes over it expands and widens the gaps.....and so forth.
