Society has to learn to adapt to all people, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this afternoon.

If a rainbow missed one of its colours, he said, it would not be complete.

Speaking during the opening of Agenzija Sapport’s new offices in Sta Venera, the Prime Minister said the event signified the writing of a new chapter in the agency’s history. The agency, which offered support to people with a disability, worked on the concept of respect to the dignity of the human being and solidarity.

Dr Gonzi said that events like these made him realise how one could make a real difference in the people’s lives.

He referred to the role of the Church, which, he said, had started the process of change in culture. The Prime Minister said that the National Commission for People with a Disability had built on that and emphasised the right to human dignity.

Dr Gonzi stressed the need for society to keep on changing and responding to the needs of its members. A one size fits all policy, he said, was not at all good for society.

Dr Gonzi then unveiled a monument by Paul Haber.
