Breast Care Support Group has been handed over a central property in Floriana by the government as their base, so as to be able to help more the breast cancer patients.
Without any official premises, the group could only meet once a month. The new location in St Anne Street will give them the possibility of offering their free services to members and to breast cancer patients on a regular basis.
“Now you will no longer be nomads,” said Lands Minister Jason Azzopardi, who presided over the ceremony of transfer of Government property to the Breast Care Support Group for an encroachment fee of €100 per year.
Dr Azzopardi thanked Gertrude Abela, the Support Group president “for giving the government the opportunity to be of help”. He appealed to breast cancer sufferers not to be afraid, shy and above all not to keep back from seeking help.

This is great news and a superb method of sharing awareness and providing support. Continue your superb work ladies, you are helping people breath easier with your knowledge and understanding of this awful illness. Well done.

Good news surely. however when will the breast care nurses at Mater Dei have adequate rooms in which to carry out their work? They tend to have a nomadic existence. I have witnessed them explaining things to cancer patients in crowded corridors . They are obviously not to blame but privacy and patient dignity should be a priority at Mater Dei.

My late wife Anita Attard - Brink was waiting for this day to come. Unfortunatly she did not make it because she passed away 2 weeks ago on Tuesday 8th January when she was only 46 Years Young. For the last Six and a Half Years the Breast Care Support Group - Europa Donna Malta was her second family and home. She worked with this group of Fantastic Ladies with Love and she will keep on Supporting.

Mr.Attard--- I am very sad to hear your devastating news. She seems to have been a marvellous lady. I hope you find comfort as time goes by and find solace in happier memories. Her work with this group surely helped a great deal in achieving this haven for these brave ladies. That too should make you proud.
