Alternattiva Demokratika will tomorrow take its grievances on the way it is being treated by TV discussion shows to the Broadcasting Authority.

The current situation in broadcasting has to change and AD expects the rulings to be fully adhered to

AD chairman Michael Briguglio said the three main TV stations – TVM, Net and One – were breaching the BA’s rulings on equal treatment for all political parties.

Dr Briguglio said on two occasions the BA ruled that all political parties should be invited for discussion programmes held on TVM, Net and One during the electoral campaign.

While the stations belonging to the political parties have largely avoided inviting AD, party representatives have been allotted a handful of minutes during discussion shows on the national broadcaster TVM.

“The current situation in broadcasting has to change and AD expects the rulings to be fully adhered to,” Dr Briguglio said yesterday at a press conference in Marsascala.

The BA is expected to hear submissions on three complaints by AD tomorrow.

Dr Briguglio stressed that AD was emerging as “the voice of reason” in the electoral campaign.

The party, which unveiled its manifesto two days ago, was proposing constitutional reforms that will strengthen democracy and pluralism, he added.

Arnold Cassola, the spokesman for EU affairs, said AD wanted a law regulating political party financing, full-time MPs and a President elected by MPs and the 68 mayors.

He said the President should also nominate members to the judiciary and important national commissions. AD also wanted the right to clean air and water to be entrenched in the Constitution, he added.

AD also presented its candidate for the third district, deputy chairman Carmel Cacopardo, and Reuben Zammit, who will contest the Marsascala local election.
