With exams and assignment deadlines round the corner, how do you deal with the mounting stress?
People have different ways of dealing with stress. I found that practising a sport during the week actually breaks down stress. I also found study groups to be of help because they create a friendly environment. Gabriel Rizzo, 23, Mcast-Btec Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies).
Since I am in the last year of my B.Sc. degree, it is stressful because I have assignments, exams and my thesis. However, planning it out with the help of staff relives some of the stress. Larissa Attard, 23, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Health and Social Care (Practice).
Time management is the key to everything. I may not have that many exams, but the assignments are very time-consuming. They do not just involve writing, but filming, conducting research and so on. Rachel Seychell, 21, PGCE in Social Studies.
Do you feel the workload is evenly distributed throughout the year?
Yes, the assignments we work on through the Btec system are evenly distributed. Gabriel Rizzo.
Yes, I find it is well distributed. With the help of others, one is able to plan out the year. Larissa Attard.
Definitely not. We were given six to seven assignments in the first semester but only three in the second semester. It is poorly planned. Rachel Seychell.
What frustrates you most when dealing with your coursework?
Due to the block placements and the way the holidays are split, there is always going to be stress towards the middle of the year. Luckily, we have a good lecture group and administrative staff, who help us with resources and time. It is frustrating initially but after we speak to the lecturers, it becomes easier. Gabriel Rizzo.
My year is planned out, but towards the end of May I have my thesis deadline and work placements, so it is going to be particularly hard for me at that time. However, lecturers understand the situation and are sometimes able to spread things out a little. Larissa Attard.
Certain classes and subjects we have do not match the assignments. The subject would cover one thing but then the assignment would focus on something completely different, thus making it difficult to complete. Rachel Seychell.
