The Labour Party will soon unveil its concrete roadmap for Gozo with a promise to create employment opportunities for Gozitans on the island, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said yesterday.

Addressing party supporters in Xewkija, Dr Muscat said this was yet another of the party’s concrete plans for a change in direction for the country.

“It is clear that Gozo too is ready to work for the change in direction we need. We started our campaign in Gozo because we think this island has seen a lot better.

“It has seen better infrastructure and more investment under both governments. But in the past five years, Gozo has been abandoned,” he said.

Dr Muscat said youngsters often complained about a lack of employment opportunities so they had option but to find a job in Malta or even abroad. “This is why we are proposing to create jobs in Gozo for Gozitans.”

He spoke about the need to revive the tourism industry on the island, saying this will create more jobs and strengthen the island’s economy.

The government has no credibility, especially in the energy sector, he said. “We announced our plans and now we expect the Government to tell us its plan.

“The gas pipeline is important and our project includes this project but we cannot wait for another eight years with these hefty bills,” he said.

Referring to his party’s energy proposals and the Government’s criticism of them, Dr Muscat asked whether there was anyone who had an interest in Malta continuing to depend on oil for its energy needs.
