President Assad has no place in the future of Syria, the Government said this morning in a statement in which it expressed grave concern at the explosions which targeted the University of Aleppo in Syria causing the death of innocent students.

These latest attacks, the Government said, demonstrated the dangerous ramifications of an escalation in the Syrian crisis.

The Government said it reaffirmed its full support to the Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States Lakhdar Ibrahimi in his mission to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis and encouraged all parties to cooperate in bringing an immediate end to violence and human rights violations, and to secure a Syrian-led political transition.

“The Government of Malta continues to call on all members of the UN Security Council to uphold their responsibilities to urgently address the situation in Syria.”
