Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco this morning started giving evidence in libel proceedings he has instituted against the Ombudsman, former Chief Justice Joseph Said Pullicino.

He said that a letter written by the Ombudsman and sent to the President and the Press was one of the factors which had led the Prime Minister to launch impeachment proceedings against him.

The letter was written in the wake of the controversy on ticket sales for the Winter Olympics by the Malta Olympic Committee, of which Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco  is president.

Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco said the International Olympic Committee had written to the MOC to say that: “No sanctions were imposed against Dr Farrugia Sacco nor was he reprimanded, nor was he found guilty of corruption, misconduct or anything else.”

The case continues.
