Athletics Malta organised their second event of the year on Sunday, on this occasion directed solely towards the younger members of the association.

This was the fourth in the series of the Endurance Cross Country programme designed for those under the age of 18 years and also including fun events for the very young, children born since the year 2002.

The enthusiasm shown by these youngsters – and their parents and guardians – is enough encouragement for the MAAA and deserves more attention by educational authorities in particular, although a few private schools did take part.

Meanwhile, the competition for the older children has now reached the decisive stage to determine the winners of these events held entirely on grass and within the absolute safety of the Marsa Sports Grounds.

Indeed, the Technical Committee of the association and their coaches consider this event as the best foundation for those future athletes to represent the country in other, more competitive and prestigious events later on in life.

The next event in the series, to which all children are invited free of charge and who just need to make an appearance on the day, will be held at the Matthew Micallef St John Athletic Stadium on the morning of February 10, starting at 8.30am.

Moreover, the next MAAA-organised event will be the Road Running Relay for clubs at Marsa-scala on Saturday, starting off from next to the historic fort at 2.30pm.
