Overseas voter travel
Air Malta is making travel arrangements for eligible Maltese voters to cast their vote in the March 9 general election.
Apart from offering seats on its scheduled services, the airline will be operating six extra flights from Luxembourg, Dublin and Manchester.
Eligible voters include those married to foreigners, studying, working or undergoing medical treatment abroad and their dependents.
Inbound travel to Malta is possible from February 27 to March 9 and return travel is from March 9 to March 17. Those voting early have to apply at the Electoral Commission by latest noon on Friday March 1, 2013.
Reservations may be made by calling Air Malta on 2599 1230. The call centre will be open between Monday to Saturday from 8am to 9pm and on Sunday from 8pm to 5pm.

There are some of those taking the offer of reduced fares who do not intend to vote. I think that the authorities should ask for reimbursement of the whole amount from these persons should this be the case. Remember this reduction of fares will cost the Maltese about a million euros.

We have just heard that Airmalta is making financial progress (if you believe it), so it is only fair to organize such flights after-all with Euro 35 Airmalta will cover a part of the passenger taxes.

First of all why foreigners don't vote in a Maltese embassy,I am sure this will cost cheaper to our country and also I don't agree that who is married to foreigners just come vote and leave and you don't see them until next election, what kind of tax are they paying to this country to have the right to vote,no sense at all.

Your saying Maltese living abroad are foreigners?? To vote is the right of being a Maltese citizen, you cannot discriminate on where you live, work or pay taxes.

It may well be the case that other airlines such as Ryan Air and Easyjet may complain that this is a camouflaged subsidy for Air Malta, unless of course Air Malta is actually carrying the extra costs itself- in which case, one may well ask, is it correct for Air Malta to be running up further losses and against EU and Government policy. Clearly if this is being offered at a loss, the public pays.

Nice break just for voting in a country where one does not reside.
