Luxol’s unbeaten run in the women’s basketball champion-ship this season came to an end last weekend when they had to bow to Alyssa Ashley Loyola after extra-time.

In a balanced match, Loyola upset the reigning champions also thanks to the contribution of Emma Moore who joined from Depiro.

Luxol showed better play at first but after forging 33-32 ahead, they allowed Loyola to change ends 40-38 in front. The gap increased to 53-43 before the last ten minutes were played.

Luxol looked more aggressive in the last quarter and though having Mollie Williams fouled out with four minutes left, six consecutive points saw them forcing extra-time after tying the score at 61-all.

Extra-time was tense but Loyola finally potted the winning basket for a 68-66 victory.

Hibs were too strong for Phoenix Qormi and the result was never in doubt. After building a 36-11 half-time lead, Hibs ran out 73-47 winners.

In another match, Athleta chalked up their second victory at the expense of bottom team Starlites this season.

Athleta dominated proceedings after the interval to open a com-manding 43-25 cushion before defending their advantage wisely for a 55-35 win.
