Caravaggio and Mattia Preti, great Italian artists of the 17th century who lived and worked in Malta, are two highlights of the updated iPhone culture guide app.

Developed by the Malta Tourism Authority, the app is available in English, Italian, French and German and is the official guide to Malta’s cultural attractions.

The success of the Malta Culture Guide App, with more than 26,000 downloads, encouraged the MTA to develop it further.

The 400th anniversary of Preti’s birth will be commemorated in Malta and Italy this week and the app is intended to serve as an ideal way of discovering the picturesque towns and villages where Caravaggio and Preti left their mark on the islands.

Often overlooked by tourists, these villages offer beautiful baroque churches, unique architectural and natural attractions and a relaxed atmosphere that takes one back in time.

The key features of the app include: 46 cultural highlights in Malta and Gozo with extensive descriptions, images and practical information, complete itineraries on Caravaggio and Preti with 23 locations connected to the two artists, high-quality zoomable pictures of paintings and churches, videos and podcasts to delve into Maltese cultural heritage and a detailed map of all the locations, viewable offline without roaming costs.
