Muscat calls on family in Comino
Labour leader Joseph Muscat this afternoon visited the only family still living in Comino, the Vella family, and heard their complaints about the absence of a government-subsidised ferry.
Dr Muscat called on brothers Anglu and Salvu Vella their sister Maria and Evangelista Buttigieg and was told that Anglu needs to go for hospital dialysis treatment three times a week, and that costs him €150 per week. Salvu suggested that a boat should be on call in such circumstances. He also complained that his pleas for assistance had so far been ignored by the government authorities.

Government provided, what €200,000+ for the cure of little Leah, which was a good gesture, but is Leah any more special than any other person or are some people more equal than others?

next anglu will be asking for a dialysis machine to be on standby in comino for such circumstances. It is their choice to remain living isolated on comino and this is one of the draw backs of this. if its effecting his health and cannot afford the 150 a week they should look into moving to either gozo or malta if it means it could cost him his life.

Its a hard decision to be honest, make available a boat for one person maybe he can get a rebate on the expenses instead.
What about other people who need special help too, this could set a precedent, Moving to Malta or Gozo would be the most logical step . When our elders cannot take care of themselves in their home they move too don't they.

Anglu need not worry for too long .
He and his family MUST SURELY vote for Labour and in 2 months time their wish will come true.
Have faith all ye whose dreams have not yet been answered .

Is the dialysis treatment free of charge? If yes, can anyone explain to me how come a return trip to Comino cost Euro 50 each time?

Why dosen't Anglu move to Gozo? Why should the tax payer pick the Euro150 a week travel cost? Unfortunately, Anglu has a condition which he has to work around. This is one person on a deserted rock.

I wonder what the Bloggers over here would do if they were in Anglu's shoes....It's so easy to be heartless towards other people, and 'Protect the Taxpayer' whenever we want..The taxpayer has had to pay so much and these bloggers? where were they...It took 17 years and 250 million Euros( instead of 50 million)... Were where you as taxpayers then?

A boat "on call in such circumstances" should be translated into - a boat on call just for Mr Vella.
What did Muscat reply to that? Did he promise a "boat on call"?
Did no one ask Muscat or is this a Labour press release - in which case this report should have said so and not report things as factual and unsourced.
