AD launches its electoral campaign
Alternattiva Demokratika this morning launched its electoral campaign and presented its candidates.
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: "AD is proud to have candidates contesting in all electoral districts. Our candidates are all committed to AD's policies. With us one knows where one stands, and our representation in parliament will ensure a responsible and consistent approach to the country’s challenges.
"Instead of political pique, AD represents consistency, responsibility and progressive politics."
He said that next Saturday, AD would approve the most progressive manifesto for the general election, which focuses on all policy areas, giving clear priority to social justice, civil rights, environmental justice and sustainable development.

It is extremely difficult for a third party to entrench its ideology within a guarded dual party system, but AD have been at it for ages and they deserve praise for doing just that. Hopefully this time round the electorate will trust AD more and increase its vote (from the 1.3% in previous elections)

AD shape Malta the way it is, because both parties are afraid of loosing votes due to the green offer better future for Malta.

AD is a non-issue in Maltese politics. Too radical and too liberal. If they were serious about making a difference, they would abandoned the radical policies and concentrate on providing a credible, practical, and real alternative to the two main parties.

And Im sure its got the word "green" written all over it, they will definately get my number two vote again, particularly thanks to the fact that they are ready to decriminalize cannabis suppost.

You just missed by 100%, Mr Spiteri. Last time we got 1.31%... which is nearly three times the difference between PL and PN.

A.Spiteri: your figures are wrong. In 2008 AD polled 1.33% of the popular votes.

Disagreeing with AD is one thing. Lying is another. AD got 1.31% of the vote, much more than the difference between PN and PL.

Honestly - who cares? What are we trying to do ? Pretend we don't have a two party system? At least Josie Muscat had the sense to call it a day when he saw there was no interest in his party.

M Grima, please get your facts right. AD welcomes shift to gas and renewavbles but we asked PL to publish studies on costings and we criticised proposed timeframes. As regards gay rights, PL (like PN) opposes same-sex marriage, opposes the right to adopt by same-sex couples and voted in favour of IVF legislation which discriminates against LGBT persons. AD is the only party for full LGBT rights.

The biggest flaw in AD's election strategy is Michael Brigulio, who must decide what AD really wants. On one hand he says that AD were always in favour of gas powered power stations and on the other hand he shot down Labour's proposal. He also criticised the PL for their stand in favour of gay rights I guess, like his friends the Nationalists, he has been hit by the mediocrity syndrome.

Wrong.
AD criticized the PL because of their stand AGAINST treating gays equally by denying them the right to marry.
On the power station it's because the PL is being unrealistic not because it's powered with gas. AD had been for gas much before the PL.
