Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this evening that investment in primary healthcare will be the PN’s priority in the health sector in the next legislature.

The prime minister stressed during an interview in Sta Venera that plans were in hand for an extensive massive reform in the primary health sector.

To date, he said, investment had focused on Mater Dei, the building of the new cancer hospital and a rehabilitation facility. In the coming years, the focus would shift to primary healthcare.

Dr Gonzi renewed his criticism of Labour's energy plan, calling it a gimmick on the lines of the 1996 VAT promise.

He warned that the first casualty of a Labour government would be jobs, whereas job-creation was one of the PN government's records. Jobs would remain the next PN government's overall priority.

Dr Gonzi said that in the coming weeks the PN would show once again that it had the best programme for the running of the country in the next legislature and he was sure that the people would once again decide that the PN was the best option for Malta.
