A Labour government would update the Social Security Act and address anomalies found in the law which are based on the concept that husbands are the breadwinners and women's place is at home, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said.

Speaking on One TV this morning, he said the law on equality would also be strengthened to ensure better equality between men and women and to have more effective remedial action when there was discrimination.

He said that Labour would also appoint more women to government boards, based on their competence.
