Following a report a few weeks ago about wanton destruction of 60,000 litres of Tuscany’s famous red wine Brunello di Montalcino, a second act of vandalism has taken place on the tiny southern Italian wine producing island of Pantelleria.

The incident on the Mediterranean island, which took place just before the New Year, saw some 700 litres of precious wine destroyed at the Abraxas di Pantelleria wine producer’s estate.

Part of the Abraxas’ 2012 wine harvest as well as 250 litres of 2012 and 2010 passito liquor wine that was destroyed is owned by a former Agriculture Minister and a current member of Parliament. Police are currently investigating the incident.

With regard to the ‘Tuscan job’, Italian police have reportedly arrested a former employee who they believe could have acted out of revenge because his employer had allocated some housing to a fellow employee.
