Bowmore Islay Single Malt whisky has recently sold the No. 1 bottle of its oldest whisky (1957) and as promised donated the proceeds to five Scottish charities: Alzheimer Scotland, The Beatson Oncology Centre, Chas (children’s hospice services); Erskine (medical care for Armed Forces); and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This bottle is not only the oldest whisky the distillery has ever released, at 54 years old, it is also the oldest Islay Single Malt ever released.

It was sold to a US buyer who wishes to remain anonymous for £100,000 (€122,000). Only 12 bottles exist in the world, two of which are kept in the Morrison Bowmore archives and nine now remain for sale at the Bowmore Distillery.
