San Anton School has categorically refuted the assertion made by the Malta Union of Teachers that  its head Joe Gauci passed derogatory comments about teachers at the school.

The school also denied that Dr Gauci tried to single out any of the teachers as the people voicing complaints to the union in an email written to the union.

San Anton said that the email in question was not written by the head of school but was an internal email received by the head from a member of staff. The email was inadvertently forwarded to the MUT.

“The language used and the comments and content therein were evidently written in the heat of the moment by the author and do not in any way reflect the head of school’s beliefs or those of the school board.

“The email was regrettably misconstrued by the Malta Union of Teachers notwithstanding the fact that recent communications of the head of school with the union general secretary had clearly indicated the willingness of the school and of the head himself to discuss the issues in question amicably in view of arriving to an agreement.”

San Anton School also categorically refuted and condemned the words of union president Kevin Bonello who affirmed that teachers at San Anton School were not trusted.

“On the contrary, the school reaffirms the profound respect the head of school, the school board and the school administration at large had for the teachers within the school as individuals and professionals.

“Furthermore, the school strongly affirms its belief in the qualities and capabilities of its staff who are, together with the school administration, the authors of the considerable success enjoyed by San Anton School in these years.”
