Marsascala family park to open before next election

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said today at Villa Arrigo that the Government would open the Marsascala family park by March 9.
He said this would be the biggest family park in Malta, the size of 21 football pitches.
Dr Gonzi also said he felt proud when German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised Malta's economy in Berlin yesterday.
He stressed that the country's results could not be taken for granted because if a captain of a ship where to take a wrong decision, the whole ship could sink.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his commitment to keeping electricity bills as low as possible.
The Nationalist Party will tonight hold a general council to approve its manifesto on which the party's electoral programme would be built.
The electoral programme should not be a Christmas hamper, he said.

To Mr Luciano Chetcuti. I live in the USA. Is there anyway to find out from your fearless leaders how much money was involved in the purchase of Ta Qali, the money for Smart City etc. And where are the monies now.With all this selling of MALTA. The most important question is this. A health study in connection with rats, insects, mosquitoes flies and other prests was imposed by MEPA . Also a study on the contamination of that area. It is a well known fact that Waste treatment6 Plants generate such pests. These 2 studies were never carried out. This was confirmed even by the ex MEPA Auditor in his unpublished report.

According to the P.M. the Family Park is 112 times greater than a football ground. And yet there is no sibngle football ground for Marsaskala youths. A family park 10 metres away from WasteServ is no solution for the immense damage GonziPN caused to Marsaskala property. It could have been had GonziPN built a full-size football pitch instead of wasteserv. That's what the fastest growing population of Malta - Marsaskala needs, not a wasteserv. Despite what anyone tells you Electricitity bills are at the end dependant on the price of oil/gas and there is nothing any government can do about that unless they heavily subsidise the local price which will cost the taxpayer dearly in higher taxes. Joseph is promising pie in the sky on this one and has not convinced anyone.

Imagine a prospective EU prime minister using the opening of a family park as part of his campaign. He would be laughed out of the election game. But in Malta, every little bit helps. 2. Football Pitch: True - no full size football pitch in M'Scala but the turfed one at the local Govt school is used by all & sundry even after 5pm. Would say its about 75 mtrs from the church!!

The football pitch you mention [if you refer to that] is used by the Marsascala Nursery daily after 5.00pm, yet it is not the proper size and far too small and our children are not getting the benefit of training in a proper at least 5 a side ground. Yep Marsascala needs a full size/proper ground.

For information purposes Wasteserve had an open day a couple of months ago to explain to the public all about the family park and how it will utilise energy from the waste recycling plant next to it.
There was also a detailed model on display.
Those who took interest and went there could appreciate the work being done on site.
Stop grumbling and give merit when it is due.

Well you shouldn't be surprised Mr Ellul. Project work started months ago.... way before the election was announced. If work is about to finish, it makes sense to open it... after all its your children who will benefit from this.

@ Mark Portelli ... the work started months ago . and I tell you that except for Christmas day and New Years' Day, these last few month workers have been working from sunrise to sunset to get this place done before elections. Well at least it will get done and finished.

Family parks are good but we also need car parks - preferably free.
We know that the 'developer barons' actually run Malta, and they make money from flats and villas not car parks. This is why we have a massive surplus of unsold flats and yet we also have no new car parks.
So why does MEPA not insist on 105% car parking spaces for each development - that would get cars off the streets!

And GONZi hasnt been giving out his hampers? only this week the police received promotions after 5 years, they are trying to fill a position in the health service which could be for 1 person or 14, as usual the PN cant make up their minds, How many others has Gonzi promised promotions to,? These people need to be very careful in accepting as the could get their termination papers after election

@ Paul Borg - Do not forget that these should have been done before election. Do not forget that during the 1996 - 1998 Alfred Sant started many environmental projects such as Bugibba, M'scala, Birzebbuga promenades and mostly finalised before 1998 election with no EU fund aids and using Maltese goverment workers. Zabbar road in Fgura was opened by PN by the end of 1999 which was started by MLP.
